I found this product by accident. I was looking for reviews for chain saws and I happened to see this electric lopper. I have a lot of branches and sticks in my backyard that have accumulated in the past few years. I decided to buy this product and pay for the overnight shipping. I tried it right out of the box and found that the reviews were right! This electric lopper is amazing! My wife fell in love with it too. It is really easy to use and to operate. 

It doesn’t get the really big branches but it does cut through the rest of them with ease. I love Black and Decker products. I am considering buying the 18 volt version of this project as well.

This works great for trimming, as well as taking down small trees. I was able to cut down 3 trees around 12 feet tall and 5 inches diameter, cut off all the brances, and then cut them into 3 foot logs, all in around half an hour. The lopper is easy to use and much safer than a regular chainsaw. The only thing you will need that does not come in the box is chainsaw bar oil. They include an applicator bottle for the oil, but not the oil itself. I was able to get the oil cheaply at a hardware store, but it did delay my project start time slightly, so plan ahead.

I haven’t used my new lopper as of yet, but have used a friends. That’s where I became introduced 
to the lopper. This makes the job so easy and it’s much safer then a regular chain saw. Easy to clean

I recieved this chainsaw as a gift. My father made fun of it..said it looked like a toy. This chainsaw proved him wrong. I trimmed off several large tree branches and also cut down a medium sized pine tree with this mighty little chainsaw. My only complaint is that the battery does not last as long as I would like. After several weekends of tree pruning the chain is dull but not unexpected after the amount of use. I do recommend this product.

I was quite hesitant to purchase this … I wasn’t sure how well a battery operated pole saw could really work. But, I have several other B&D battery operated items (weed whacker, leaf blower, etc.), and so far have been pleased with all of them. This was no exception. I don’t have a lot of upper body strength, but I am able to support the weight of this easily. I am careful to check the chain for tightness and oil, and haven’t had any problems thus far. It cuts through branches that are quite large without issue. Now, if someone could just invent one that hauls away the branches when you’re done!

I bought this to help with the clean-up from last winter’s ice-storm damage, and so far, have been very pleased. The motor seems to have ample power, and it cuts well. I was afraid the saw on the end of a 14 foot pole would be too heavy and unweildy, but is is surprisingly easy to keep it balanced. I was also pleased to note that, as soon as you release the trigger, the chain stops with no “coasting”. And its nice ,too, that the B & D batteries will interchange with my hedge trimmer and string trimmer, so its easy to go to work with any one of them with extra batteries. Highly recommended.

The landscape companies wants to charge $100 to trim my tree, but I say screw them and bought this pole chainsaw. It works great and I can use it to trim and cut pretty much all trees/plants outside of my house now. I think I probably SAVE a few hundred bucks $$$ each year by using this chainsaw. The battery is great because I have other Black & Decker equipments that uses the same 18V batteries, so I have plenty of batteries for this and other B&D. products. 

The only thing that I wish this chain saw could do was make the battery connector attach to the chainsaw instead of the pole. That way I can use the chain saw WITHOUT any attach poles. Just like a normal chainsaw.

Easy to operate

I was not sure what to expect out of a battery operated chain saw. I was pleasantly surprised when I used it the first time on a few 3 inch tree branches. It actually cut right through them. To operate cordlessly and not running gas are two major considerations. I like what the Alligator Lopper does. Again, I can’t compare it to a chainsaw. But it is very easy to use. And it cuts the tree branches effortlessly. The thicker limbs may require some muscle. It is difficult to cut something beyond your height, because your have to raise it high and press the blades together. I *imagine” it would be easier to swing a chainsaw overhead to reach higher places.

Regular chainsaws scare me. This is great!!! I can cut and trim just about anything in my yard with this. They say it only cuts up to 4″ pieces, but you can go larger just by turning and readjusting the angles of the saw. Don’t know how I lived without one of these. I don’t usually do reviews but I love my alligator chain saw. We have 5 acres and lots of yard work to do. My father has a regular chain saw but I can’t even lift that. Plus, it’s pretty dangerous. I’ve always used hand loppers and a hand saw if I need to cut a tree or branch. It’s tedious work. These things slice through most things under 3 or 4 inches even plants that are hard as a rock like cedar. It’s a little bit heavier than I’d like but I can manage it. I can now prune a butterfly bush with all the hard dead branches in minutes. Adding oil can be a pain but it’s better than having to use gas too. Don’t use it to prune leafy bushes with small pieces as those will jam up and require cleaning it out. Read all the directions. If you have a lot of yard work and need help, you need this. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

I’ve used this saw for three days now and am really impressed. I allready had another two batteries and a charger so with three batteries and two chargers I can get alot done before I run out of juice. THis is the chainsaw that always starts! I gave away my gas chainsaws. It was the first Black and Decker 18volt tool I purchased. I Love this because I can get a lot done trimming around the farm. have had this chainsaw for about three years and use it regularly for clean-up work and taking down trees in vermont. easy to use, easy to maintain and the battery lasts for about 40-50 cuts before starting to fac\de (generally less than 4″ diameter trees). have purchased a second battery pack and keep two charged, giving a longer workday. if this one were to break i would replace it without a second thought.

Good but could be better

I really like this cordless chainsaw for my small yard. Recently I had to clear the bushes away from my house so the painter could have access. The painter indicated he could have the bushes cleared out for about 4 times the price of the Black and Decker cordless chainsaw so I bought the B&D cordless instead and did it myself. 

I plan on using it about a 1 hour per year so the included battery and charger should be fine. 

One thing I did notice is that the chain oiler needs less than 30w oil as called out for in the instructions. With 30w oil, it would not apply oil to the chain. I used some Husqvarna chain saw oil and it would not dispense oil onto the chain either. Instead, I used 3-in-one oil. This worked perfectly. I also tried some 5w-30 motor oil in an external hand oiler and that worked good also but is somewhat inconvenient. If you keep the oil in the chain oil reservoir to 5w or so, you shouldn’t have a problem. 
It’s important to keep the chain oiled as the chain wears out much more quickly if it’s left dry. 

I would recommend that you try different weight oils for the chain oiler to determine what best works for you.

This thing ROCKS!

I have a gas chainsaw, but wanted this battery powered one for small jobs. I figured I’d use it for nothing more than trimming bush branches & little saplings, but I have found that it’s a full-blown chainsaw and quite capable of taking down a 7″ tree with no problem whatsoever. The first time I put it to serious use, I had to take down a fairly large oak tree (7″ diameter) and as usual couldn’t get my gas saw started. So I grabbed the little B&D & a fresh battery and went to it. It went through the tree like a knife through butter! I was very impressed, and now when I need to cut trees, I grab the B&D before anything else. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver and work with, and will take down anything within the bite of its bar. It just plain rocks! 

I think the guys at Black & Decker actually use the tools they make because this saw, like all B&D power tools, is well thought out, well built, and everything on it just makes sense. They have a real winner with this saw. 
I highly recommend it.

Pleasantly Surprised

I was quite hesitant to purchase this … I wasn’t sure how well a battery operated pole saw could really work. But, I have several other B&D battery operated items (weed whacker, leaf blower, etc.), and so far have been pleased with all of them. This was no exception. I don’t have a lot of upper body strength, but I am able to support the weight of this easily. I am careful to check the chain for tightness and oil, and haven’t had any problems thus far. It cuts through branches that are quite large without issue. Now, if someone could just invent one that hauls away the branches when you’re done!

I bought this to help with the clean-up from last winter’s ice-storm damage, and so far, have been very pleased. The motor seems to have ample power, and it cuts well. I was afraid the saw on the end of a 14 foot pole would be too heavy and unweildy, but is is surprisingly easy to keep it balanced. I was also pleased to note that, as soon as you release the trigger, the chain stops with no “coasting”. And its nice ,too, that the B & D batteries will interchange with my hedge trimmer and string trimmer, so its easy to go to work with any one of them with extra batteries. Highly recommended.

The landscape companies wants to charge $100 to trim my tree, but I say screw them and bought this pole chainsaw. It works great and I can use it to trim and cut pretty much all trees/plants outside of my house now. I think I probably SAVE a few hundred bucks $$$ each year by using this chainsaw. The battery is great because I have other Black & Decker equipments that uses the same 18V batteries, so I have plenty of batteries for this and other B&D. products. 

The only thing that I wish this chain saw could do was make the battery connector attach to the chainsaw instead of the pole. That way I can use the chain saw WITHOUT any attach poles. Just like a normal chainsaw.

I have a 10-acre, naturally forested plot with about 3.5 acres cleared leaving a long perimeter of trees and heavy brush as well as a good number of trees left within the clearing. Everything about this tool is quality for the money, including the carrying/storage case which neatly fits the three sections. You do need to manually oil the chain each time you use it, but that’s easy and no problem for me. Plenty of power and cuts very fast until the battery runs down. So far my chain remains sharp, but I will soon buy a spare chain (of course, someone local can professionally sharpen these chains just like with larger chainsaws). The only regret I have is not finding this item years ago!

I trimmed off several large tree branches and also cut down a medium sized pine tree with this mighty little chainsaw. My only complaint is that the battery does not last as long as I would like. After several weekends of tree pruning the chain is dull but not unexpected after the amount of use. I do recommend this product.
